Nonlinear Transformations: On Failure and New Beginnings
Nathan Kimbrell has found purpose and direction from studying math while incarcerated. He hopes to pursue a graduate degree in the future.

I recently attempted mathematical research with Christopher. It was very nice of him to give me his time and guidance, but it eventually became clear to me that I am no number theorist. I learned a whole lot, but I did quit on him. I want to apologize to him publicly for that, because someone's time is the most valuable thing that they can give. He was a great sport about it, and it was super cool to have that opportunity.
It wasn't a total waste, though, because I remembered why I do math. I want to see how things work, and I want to understand the abstract structures beneath them. At age 33, I have finally begun my adventure — specializing first in partial differential equations. I'll be chronicling that here for the one or two people who might be interested.
I have an incredible amount of work ahead of me. I'm going to give it a real shot, though. I'll let you know how it’s going soon, because I've already started.
